Links between Anxiety and Sleep Problems

There are numerous links between anxiety and sleep problems. In fact, one of the leading causes of insomnia and other sleep related issues is anxiety. Stress, can overwhelm the body at all levels and if not dealt with properly during the day can seep into your sleep routine.

You may find that your mind is continuously wandering or that you worry excessively when you lie down to go to sleep. It is important to try to keep your sleep as normal as possible so that you can rest your body and mind and avoid sleep disorders . Remember that your body heals and repairs itself while you sleep and that sleep is essential to health and well-being.

Before bed, try to listen to relaxing music, enjoy meditation or take part in an activity like a candle lit bubble bath that will help you to relax. Try to avoid alcohol as it contains stimulants that will actually alter your normal sleep.

A Glass of Wine Before Bed and Sleep Problems – Why they May Go Hand in Hand!

After a hard day, there may be nothing more relaxing than a nice glass of wine to take the edge off. While it may help you to relax, it is important to not overdo it. Too much alcohol before bedtime can actually interrupt REM sleep, which is the most restful, and nourishing for the body.

Even if you sleep for 10 hours without being able to reach the REM sleep, you will feel as though you haven’t slept at all.
During REM sleep, the body goes into a sort of paralysis that helps the cells to rebuild and the brain to be optimized for your best daytime performance. If you have developed sleep problems, try cutting out the wine completely before bed before you reach out for other commercial sleeping aids .
