Deciding which facility is best for you is a hard choice that comes down to several factors. Of course, you have to consider cost. Often university centers are research based and can help to defray many of the costs for your participation.
Even though an intern or student may tend to you, they still have knowledgeable and trained physicians on staff that oversees all aspects of your care. The hospital sleep disorder centers are the ones most commonly recommended by doctors because of network affiliations. It is important to have a clear understanding of what your insurance will pay for before you go, as the services provided are extremely expensive. They too, will have trained physicians on staff and should have an acting diplomat on board, who is certified in the field of sleep medicine.
Is Visiting Sleep Disorder Clinics Frightening for Children?
Children often suffer from sleep disorders. The centers normally have a pediatric wing that is set up to provide an exceptionally relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for a child. Parents are asked to go as well and to keep the bedtime routine to as close to normal as possible. If your child has a bath before bed, you will do the same thing there. Children may be frightened of the machinery and wires that are used for monitoring, but there is absolutely nothing painful or frightening about these centers. Children can watch movies, play video games, have snacks and essentially pretend that they are visiting a fancy hotel for one evening. While parents aren’t usually allowed to sleep with their children, they do allow parents to stay in the room.
