A sleep ritual is very important at all stages in life. When you were a child, you no doubt conformed to bedtimes and other rituals that had you sleeping in no time. If you are not sleeping, how to change this is probably at the top of your priority list. Establishing a sleep routine may be just what you need to get to sleep, stay asleep and feel refreshed the next day.

The steps to developing a routine are easy and within a month, you can expect your new habits to take hold.

Here are 5 tips to sleeping, how to develop your routine today!

•	Got to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Rather than sleeping in, taking naps or staying up late, try to make a routine out of your habits. This will help to establish a biological clock. Never go to sleep in the daylight and try to wake up at dawn.
•	Take a winding down period. Every night before bed, try to do something that is calming and relaxing to you. Listening to relaxing music or meditating are good ways to help relax your mind and body.
•	Use white noise in your bedroom. Avoid falling asleep to the radio or TV on, even if the sound is muted. These are stimulating activities. Having a white noise maker and committing to concentrate on it are effective ways at relaxing.
•	Have a light snack one hour before bedtime. A cup of milk or small slice of toast would be perfect. While you should refrain from large meals 3 hours before bed, a light snack will make you sleepy and ensure that you aren’t woken up due to an empty stomach.
•	Make sure that your bedroom is cool. Many sleep disorders studies have shown that a cooler room to sleep in is more sleep inducing and effective at helping people stay asleep and breath better at night.

While these habits may take some time, the good news is that developing a routine can be an effective way to get you to sleep faster!

Not being able to sleep affects millions of people worldwide. Some cant fall asleep fast enough while others can’t stay asleep long enough.
How to Improve Your Sleep Patterns

There can be a number of different causes to your problem sleeping. In fact, sleep disorders not only have causes, but they have effects as well. You can become more depressed and anxious because of your lack of sleep. You suffer from poor productivity, mood swings, personality changes and motor changes which can cause you to have a car accident or falls during the waking hours. So it’s vital for your overall health to understand how to sleep better as soon as possible.

When you are tired of feeling tired, it is time to take a look at your sleep hygiene and see if any of your habits are causing your sleep disorders. Knowing how to sleep is not something that everyone can do well.

Here are 5 tips that may help you get through the night

Don’t exercise close to bedtime. This only causes your brain and body to experience a boost in activity.

Never lie in bed ruminating about not sleeping. Instead, get yourself up and do something monotonous or boring. The trick is not to expose yourself to too much light or stimulation.

Avoid naps at all costs! No matter how tired you feel during the day try not to take a nap. This can disrupt your sleep schedule. If you must relax, commit to only 20 minutes of relaxation.

Avoid caffeine or stimulants after 2pm. The effects of your afternoon cup of coffee can be the one thing keeping you up at night. Avoid caffeinated beverages as well as chocolate or overly sugared foods.

Use your bed for sleeping ONLY! Don’t lie in bed and watch TV or play on the computer.

Learning how to sleep better can take some time and adjustments. Keep in mind that as you get older you may need less sleep than before and adjusting your bed and waking times may help.

Continues Research on How to Sleep Better

Sleep disorders like insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy and other sleep disorders are researched a great deal in the sciences. Sleep disorder studies have made a big difference in our understanding of sleep and in our ability to treat sleep disorders so common today. Sleep disorder clinics can help the individual figure out the underlying problem of why they cannot sleep and so they can get at the root of the problem in their treatment of their condition.
