If you suffer from sleep issues that are recurring and have become an interruption to your lifestyle, health and well being your doctor may ask you to visit a sleep disorder center .

When you visit, you will be asked to spend the night and hooked up to several different types of monitors during the night so that the doctors can assess the nature of your sleep problems. Often, breathing problems such as apnea can be one of the triggers that cause you to wake up prematurely at night. Then, it can be difficult to go back to sleep. They can also monitor heart rates to see if you are suffering from extreme stress, anxiety and can measure brain function to see if you are able to achieve REM sleep.

What are the procedures in a Sleep Disorders Center

While none of the procedures are painful, it may not be comfortable sleeping under observation. You should understand that sleep disorder centers are specifically designed to get to the root of your sleeping disorders so that your doctor can provide treatment options that will be successful.

Make sure you ask the nurses plenty of questions before hand to reduce your stress and bring comforts from home so that you will be comfortable during your stay. Most do not allow other people to spend the night with you and are attempting to offer a personalized and pragmatic approach to your sleep problems so you can find the solutions that you need.
